Artist Guest House & Barn Studio
About
The Artist Guest House and associated Barn Studio are available to serious artists for a month-long stay, for a flat rate of $700. This is an ideal opportunity for visual artists, writers and other creatives who seek a concentrated period of time to focus on their work, in a likeminded community.
Rental periods run from the first to the last day of each month. You are advised to make a reservation far in advance, as the roster fills up quickly. On the other hand, feel free to check if the house is available on short notice, as it sometimes opens up. To learn more, email judithstewart1@gmail.com.
Background
Rancho Linda Vista sits at 4,500 feet, on 114 acres, bordering miles of desert wilderness. Built by resident architectural designer Chuck Sternberg, the Guest House is modeled after the ranchs other 1920s historic structures. In the past, Hollywood stars came here looking for a simple, rustic existence in the desert. Today, life here remains pared down, unfussy and bucolic.
On Our End
You will be provided a House with a living room, kitchen with dining nook, bedroom, and bathroom. Set out into the desert, the house faces onto the north face of the Santa Catalina Mountains. The house comes with furniture, kitchen implements, linens, and cleaning supplies. There is also a washing machine and clothesline that will leave your clothes smelling sweet. Heating, cooling, Wifi and local television are also provided.
The Studio, which is approximately 350 square feet, is located in the barnyard and adjoins the resident artist studios and gallery. The space comes with work tables, chairs, shelving, a heater and air conditioner, and a sink. Those who want to work with clay, intaglio print-making, or in the wood shop need to arrange advance permission.
Art Openings and other cultural events are held here—usually once or more a month. In the summertime, residents often gather around the pool at the end of day.
On Your End
Guests are responsible for the houses upkeep, transporting and provisioning themselves, and making do. (We are not a hotel or AirBNB.) A car is essential as there is limited food shopping in Oracle, the town itself is spread out, and there is no public transportation. Learn more...

Not an Artist, but Looking for Accommodations?
Oracle has a number of wonderful places to stay—on refurbished historic ranches and more. We recommend the Triangle L Ranch, Rancho Robles and the 3C Ranch. For large groups and retreats, consider the COD Ranch.
Sundays the RLV Gallery is open to visitors, from 11 AM to 5 PM. Check our Facebook page for posts about special events, including artist receptions. Tours can also be arranged by email or calling 520-896-9574.
